We couldn’t help but smile when we saw this little girl’s face after spotting her own photo on a gallery wall.
Celia Furtado, a 5-year-old with Down syndrome, was recently diagnosed with lymphoma. Since then she has lost her hair, as well as some weight. So when she saw herself a year ago, with a full head of hair, she couldn’t stop smiling.
“When she saw it, she started screaming and pointing to herself,” Celia’s mom, Katie Furtado, said. “I think the whole world looks at Celia differently now since she doesn’t have any hair and she’s lost a lot of weight, but I was relieved that Celia still sees Celia.”
Her photo, along with other Down syndrome kids, was taken by Laura Kilgus for a gallery event in honor of Down Syndrome Awareness Month.
