This Strange (But Totally Normal!) Thing May Be Happening to You After Sex, Even Though You’d Never Admit It

Ever felt sad (or even burst into tears) after making love–even when it was amazing? You are not alone. Nearly half of all women experience post-coital dysphoria, as the condition is called, at least once in their lives, according to a new study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine. And it doesn’t even matter if you are happily married, or not.

It’s not just sadness, either. Women can get angry, agitated, or anxious–and the feelings can last anywhere from five minutes to a few hours after the cuddling is over. While sexperts aren’t sure WHY women feel so down, some say it’s hormonal while others speculate that sex calls up deep emotions, which then sets up a cascade of other powerful feelings.

So the next time you feel sad, or angry, or just plain down, after spending time in bed, just go with it. It’s perfectly normal, and nothing to worry about.
