Mom Buying Dinner for Sick Son Realizes She Forgot Her Wallet, Stranger Angel Saves the Day

Joanna Johnson, of Milton Keynes, England, was having a horrible day. Her 16-month-old son had a fever, a cold, and was teething–and had spent most of the day crying. Knowing it would be extra-hard to feed her toddler dinner, she decided to run to the supermarket, about a half-hour’s drive away, to get him something special in the hopes of tempting him to eat.

Inside the grocery store, the British mom opened a package of cakes to quiet her son, who munched on it as she shopped. When she got to the checkout line, she realized she’d forgotten her wallet. At her wit’s end, she went to the store’s manager to confess. His response floored her.

“No problem, these things happen, we’ve all been there–just take them,” he told her. Then spotting the rest of her shopping, he said he’d bag the food for her; she could just come back the next day and pay. Johnson at first refused, but the supermarket’s manager insisted. “It was so kind that it just sent me over the edge, and I burst into tears in the shop. Ridiculously kind of him to save a frazzled mother…what a legend!” she wrote in a Facebook post that night.

Speaking to the U.K.’s Mirror, Johnson said, “Sometimes it’s just the little things that, at times, can mean so much. The shopping probably cost £16 [about $25] but they’ve got a customer for life now.”
