Picture it: Sicily, 1922 — just kidding! But really, let’s imagine that it’s Saturday, and you beg your husband to go to the mall with you; you tell him you’re only going to go to one store. But one store turns in 10 and as you browse the racks, your hubby tells you he’s going to go sit down. Once you’ve finally finished shopping, you have to walk the mall and find your husband, who, by now, has fallen asleep in public. Sound familiar?

One Instagram — aptly titled Miserable Men — is dedicated to documenting all the miserable men who have trekked to the mall only to be abandoned on a bench to sleep while their wives, girlfriends, or daughters shop. And not surprisingly, it’s pretty hilarious!

Most men have found a comfy chair where they can doze off (although there is a small group of extra miserable men who have been forced to stand while waiting), often surrounded by dozens of shopping bags. Others — and these are the pros — know what’s going to happen the moment their partners see a sale sign, so they’ve brought things like laptops and magazines to entertain themselves. These guys know they’re in it for the long haul.

Then there are the few, the lucky, the men who find other lonely men with whom they can talk to and pass the time. We’d bet they’re probably all sitting there, complaining about how much they hate the mall.

The last group, and undoubtedly the most unfortunate one, is made up of guys that have been forced to participate in the shopping process. Usually, this category is comprised of dads and boyfriends who have been turned into, essentially, a coat rack for their girlfriend’s picks that she needs to try on or a shoe rack for their son. Our hearts go out to these men.

So the next time your husband says, “Okay,” when you ask to go shopping, thank him! Lord knows he probably doesn’t want to be there.
