Dad’s Genius Technique for Stopping a Temper Tantrum Is Pure Gold

Tags:

Someone give this dad a gold medal, because he just won the Olympics of parenting. Or at least, that’s what more than 22 million people seem to think after watching his brilliant Facebook Live video he posted with his little girl.

Ohio dad Terrel Rico Relz Crawford was shopping in Walmart with his young daughter Ari when she suddenly broke down into a tantrum. Every parent’s dreaded shopping experience, right? But instead of yelling at her to stop or continuing to go about his business, he tried a totally different tactic instead. And we have to admit, it might be the most genius thing we’ve ever seen.

How to Stop a Tantrum

As you can see in the video, Crawford sets the scene in the Walmart parking lot, right after Ari threw a fit inside the store. They sit on the hood of their car together as he waits patiently for Ari to calm down. He even looks, dare we say, a little amused at the whole thing.

“You done?” he asks her. “You sound like you’re still whining to me. You gonna listen in the store? You gonna stop whining? You gonna stop screaming?”

Then, he lays down the law.

“I’m not taking you back into Walmart until you stop with your mess… If we go back in the store and you do it again, we’re coming back out here to sit down,” he said.

And here’s the brilliant part: His method actually works.

“I don’t care if you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth,” he says, addressing the camera. “Do not put one in your child’s mouth because this is what happens.”

Crawford later admitted to coddling his daughter a bit, especially since she is the only girl out of four siblings. But that’s why he wanted to show parents to recognize when they’re spoiling their children too much, and how to change their ways when necessary.

“If they don’t learn by you teaching them, who are they going to learn by?” he asks viewers.

But he also wants parents to know that it takes patience to build patience.

“It’s something you have to go through to get through,” he said.

Well, it looks like he and his little girl are off to a great start! Hats off to him.
