Dad With Alzheimer’s Is Already Forgetting His Son, But When They Sing in the Car, It Brings Them Back Together

Carpool karaoke is always fun to watch, but this father-son duet of a 1960s pop song is burning up the Internet–and the reason will touch your heart! Ted McDermott, 80, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s three years ago. His son Simon has admitted that his dad has begun forgetting who he and his mom are. Ted was frequently angry, and had aggressive episodes. But then Simon hit upon the idea of filming his dad in the car as they sang together. Not only has it made his dad happier, but it’s also raised money for Alzheimer’s awareness.

Why would singing have so many perks? Well, the older McDermott used to perform in clubs when he was young and was dubbed the Songaminute Man because of how many songs he knew. So far, Simon and his dad have filmed three duets, but it’s this performance of “Cuando, Cuando, Cuando” that’s gone viral and raised so much money. Even better, says Simon: Ted’s now getting more out of his life. And when they spend time together this way, Simon and Ted are just like any other dad-son duo–albeit one that drives around a supermarket parking lot singing cheesy oldies!
