Mom’s Facebook Post Is Going Viral After She Admitted to Making Brownies With Breast Milk

Bake sales are a classic way for organizations to make an extra bit of money, but for busy moms everywhere, it might be hard to find some time in your schedule to bake a tray of brownies or chocolate chip cookies. But according to one parenting group on Facebook, a mother found a time-saving method that has, not surprisingly, grossed out the internet.

Sanctimommy, a Facebook group for parents, posted a screenshot of a woman’s post that’s gone viral for one reason: Said mom used breast milk to make brownies for her child’s bake sale.

The name and photo of the woman who originally wrote the Facebook post has been blacked out, but it’s her words that have really united the internet in horror. According to the author, she didn’t have enough time to visit the grocery store, so she used the next best thing after dairy milk: breast milk.

“I didn’t have time to run to the store and didn’t think it was a big deal,” she wrote. “Some of those kids could use the nutrition, let’s be honest. And it wasn’t even that much.”

She finishes the post by asking for suggestions for dealing with the other moms who found out about the brownie’s secret ingredient and are now “blowing it way out of proportion.”

The Sanctimommy Facebook page, whose name is a clever combination of the words sanctimonius — meaning “making a show of being morally superior to other people” —and mommy, hilariously captioned the photo, “I shall forever remember today as the day I stopped supporting bake sales.”

Other community members immediately chimed in, and their responses are pretty spot-on.

All jokes aside, it’s definitely not okay to hide breast milk in other people’s foods. According to the CDC, serious infectious diseases like HIV can be transferred through breast milk. Yikes! So while we’re not bashing women who cook with breast milk — because there are certainly products available to the public that list it as an ingredient — we do want people to be aware of the potential dangers.
