Eva Amurri, daughter of Susan Sarandon, shared some heartbreaking news about her two-month-old son, Major.
On her blog, the 31-year-old actress and mother of two revealed that a night nurse fell asleep while holding her son. As a result, she dropped the boy who cracked his head on the hardwood floors.
Amurri stayed at the hospital with her son for two days. "He suffered a fractured skull and bleeding on his brain," she wrote in her emotional post, but miraculously his fall has not caused any developmental issues. "We were absolutely, divinely lucky that day. He had no other broken bones, and no spinal affects whatsoever. He has been healing well, hitting milestones, cooing, smiling, and generally showing us that he is and will be ok as he grows and develops."
Unfortunately, Major's accident came only two weeks after Amurri's husband, former Major Leage Soccer player Kyle Martino, fell off the couple's roof while cleaning the gutters. Martino suffered only minor injuries, but Amurri believes that the two mishaps, which occurred within a short amount of time, triggered "some form of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, possibly linked to some form of Postpartum Depression."
Immediately after the nurse dropped Major, Amurri blamed herself for her son's injuries.
"The guilt I bore in the days and weeks after this accident was more intense and more damaging than anything I would wish upon my worst enemy...Even though I finally made peace with the fact that this freak accident could not have been avoided by me, it has continued to effect me to my core and in all aspects of my daily life."
Since her post was published, Amurri has been the target of sympathy but also harsh criticism. In a recent Instagram post, she hit back at people who have faulted her for her son's accident.
"To those who have expressed judgement, cruelty, and criticism of me, my choices, or my fragility during this time- I'm not going to justify myself to you. But I sincerely wish that 2017 brings you enough self love and confidence that you no longer feel the need to tear down another person during their darkest moment. ❤🙏🏼✨ Peace, please. "
