Walmart said it will close 269 stores across the world, including 154 in the United States.
A list of the specific stores closing can be found here on the store’s website. The U.S. closures will mostly impact Walmart Express stores, which account for 102 closings. The announcement comes as the company shifts its focus toward Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets in profitable locations.
More than 95 percent of the closed U.S. branches are within 10 miles of another Walmart. Also, the retailer also plans to open up as many as 405 stores globally in the upcoming fiscal year.
However, this move will impact 16,000 company employees, about 10,000 of whom are in the U.S.
And Walmart isn’t the only retailer announcing store closings. Macy’s recently announced it will close up shop on many of its stores. Sears Holdings is also shuttering a round of stores.
