The power of zero self-judgement! Valerie Bertinelli recently opened up to Kelly Clarkson about her struggles with public opinion when it comes to her weight.

The 62-year-old actor went on The Kelly Clarkson Show to promote her new book, Enough Already: Learning to Love the Way I Am Today.

“Why did you call the book ‘Enough Already’?” Clarkson asked.

“Because I’m done,” Bertinelli answered. “I’m just done judging myself. I’m done with all the negative talk that I give to myself because there’s enough negative talk out there. It’s just enough already. Enough.”

Bertinelli has struggled with her weight since she was a child.

Bertinelli then moved into a conversation about her weight. “It’s just enough already. Enough. Enough getting on the scale, enough saying horrible things about myself. And just changing the perspective and changing the view and the narrative.”

It took Bertinelli some time to form this new perspective, mostly because she had to undo years and years of self-judgement. “I learned at a young age that gaining weight was unlovable, made me unlovable. So, I’m still trying to purge that out of my system because it’s not true. That’s not true. It’s just a lie.”

She continued, “I watched my mom not get loved by my dad when she would gain weight. I had an elementary school teacher point at my belly and say, ‘You better watch that.'”

Now, Bertinelli is shining a light on the issue and encouraging other people to take charge of their personal story.

Clarkson noted that Bertinelli’s new book is the perfect tool for her mission: “I love the [book] title, because it’s very welcoming to so many people that have the same fight within themselves, that they’re trying to overcome.”
