Raw Frozen Dog Food Recalled Due to Salmonella Risk

Not another pet food recall! After weeks of hearing about dog food recalled because of contamination and pet food recalled for testing positive for euthanasia, we’re so sorry to report the latest dog food recall — this time affecting the brand Steve’s Real Food.

The brand’s 5-pound Raw Frozen Dog Food Turkey Canine Recipe has been removed from shelves after the Nebraska Department of Agriculture collected a sample that tested positive for salmonella, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The product, which was sent out to retail stores between June 27, 2017 and July 15, 2017, was distributed in 21 states — California, Colorado, Connecticut, Iowa, Kansa, Florida, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Washington. How scary that it’s all over the country now!

The good news is that no illnesses from this product have been reported so far. Both pets and people can be at serious risk from potential exposure to salmonella — which can cause diarrhea, vomiting, and fever — so it’s super important for you to double-check all your pet food products, even if you don’t think you bought this one.

The recall affects products with the lot number of E 178, the UPC of 6-91730-15303-8, and the best-by date of September 27, 2018. As you might expect, the FDA is urging customers to not use this dog food and to instead return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Even if you didn’t buy this dog food yourself, it’s worth spreading the word to all the pup owners you know, just in case. Let’s do our part to keep our four-legged friends — as well as our two-legged friends — safe and healthy!
