Queen Elizabeth Loves Binge-Watching Police Dramas Just Like the Rest of Us
There’s no shame in enjoying a long marathon of your favorite TV shows — especially when the summer heat has us preferring to stay indoors instead of sweating outside. It seems even someone of Queen Elizabeth’s stature isn’t above making herself cozy and binge-watching back-to-back episodes.
According to reports from Daily Mail, every year before heading up to Balmoral (the royal holiday home in Scotland), Elizabeth receives a personalized collection of DVDs to catch up on current shows and rewatch her favorites. She’s apparently old school and prefers the discs over streaming. At 93, it’s understandable that she’d be a little set in her ways. Plus, it’s doubtful anyone would mind helping her switch out the programs. This is certainly one of the most relatable royal perks we’ve ever heard about Elizabeth!
Now you’re probably wondering what type of shows have what it takes to entertain a queen. She was reportedly such a huge fan of a police drama series called The Bill that it continues to be packed in with her luggage despite ending in 2010. This was confirmed by English actor Paul Nicholls, who claimed to get a look at the list of shows. “Besides The Bill, there was Keeping Up Appearances, Midsomer Murders, New Tricks, Last of the Summer Wine, and the complete Doctor Who,” he revealed.
Elizabeth will be staying at Balmoral until mid-October, so she definitely has plenty of time to cruise through a ton of shows. She’s also joined by Prince Harry, Meghan, and little Archie this year, so chances are they’ll all curl up with a yummy snack to watch a few episodes together at some point. We can’t help but love the idea of Meghan and Elizabeth bonding over favorite storylines and characters! And we’re sure they’ll include a few kid-friendly options if they decide to give Archie a little screen time, too.
It makes us wonder what we would put in our own curated box set of TV shows, but the rest of us will probably just stick with Netflix.
