Prince Harry Reveals the Job He Always Wanted to Do Instead of Being a Working Royal

Unlike many of us mere mortals, Prince Harry never had to worry about visiting a career adviser at school and has had his professional life all but laid out for him as a member of the royal family.

But now that he and Meghan have resigned as senior working royals and vowed to become financially independent, the 35-year-old dad will need to find himself a job.

However, thanks to an article written by a royal reporter close to Harry, we now know what his dream career once was — and it’s not what you may expect.

In her article for the Daily Mail, royal reporter Rebecca English, who met Harry in the African country Lesotho in 2006, revealed that prior to meeting his wife, “his biggest wish was to go off and live in Africa.”

“‘I would love to just go and work as a tour guide, you know? Just go off into the bush and be me,’ he would say,” she wrote in her report.

It’s no secret that Prince Harry loves Africa — ahead of their royal tour to the continent last year, he called Africa his “second home” and confessed that he couldn’t wait to introduce Meghan and Archie to the region.

While we’d love to see the Sussex family live a low-key life in Africa, Harry confessed in the documentary Harry and Meghan: An African Journey that he didn’t know where or when he and his family could relocate there. 

“We’ve just come from Cape Town, that would be an amazing place for us to be able to base ourselves ― of course, it would,” he told journalist Tom Bradby.

“But with all the problems that are going on there, I just don’t see how we would be able to really make as much difference as we want to without the issues and the judgment of how we would be with those surroundings.”

At a private dinner for his charity, Sentebale, Prince Harry made his first appearance since he and Meghan decided to step back from their royal duties.

Highlighting that the decision was “not one I made lightly,” Harry explained that there was no other option and that he’d hoped to continue serving the queen, the Commonwealth, and his military associations, but without public funding.

However, this was not possible and the couple have since dropped their royal titles.

“I’ve accepted this, knowing that it doesn’t change who I am or how committed I am,” he said in his speech.

“But I hope that helps you understand what it had to come to, that I would step my family back from all I have ever known, to take a step forward into what I hope can be a more peaceful life.”
