Meghan Markle’s first interview since stepping back as a senior royal aired on Good Morning America, but it’s not exactly what fans were expecting.
Over the weekend, a sneak peek went viral across social media featuring Meghan speaking in what appears to be a serious interview.
But as it turns out, it’s not exactly the tell-all exclusive that many people expected.
Airing on Monday morning, Meghan Markle’s’ short but sweet interview delved into her brand new film role in the Disney documentary Elephant, which was released on April 3.
While rumors of Meghan’s partaking in a revealing new interview about her decision to step back have been rife, it appears the GMA segment was solely focussed on the film, which was narrated by Meghan and the proceeds of which went towards the charity Elephants Without Borders.
In the interview, Meghan talked about the basis of the documentary.
“I’m really grateful to have the opportunity to be a part of bringing the story of elephants to life,” she said.
She also referenced her own personal experience with the mammal: “I’ve been very lucky to be able to have hands-on experience with elephants in their natural habitat.
“When you spend time connecting with them and the other wildlife, you really understand we have a role to play in their preservation and their safety.”
Meghan also touched on a key takeaway from the movie she and others could learn from.
“I hope that when people see this film, they realise how connected we all are and if we had more of an awareness about the obstacles they’re facing.
“I think we’d take care of each other, this planet and animals in a very different way.”
The documentary itself follows an elephant family’s captivating 1,000 mile journey across Africa.
The former Suits actress’ involvement in the film was in return for a donation made to the Elephants Without Borders charity, which is fitting given animal welfare is something she and her husband Prince Harry are passionate about.
Meghan recorded her voice over last year, Autumn 2019, and it’s believed the GMA interview was also pre-filmed around that time.
At present, Meghan and Harry are currently isolating in their new Los Angeles home while the coronavirus pandemic continues.
But that’s not to say they haven’t been keeping busy. Over the weekend they were spotted delivering food parcels to the needy in line with Project Angel — a local charity in the Californian city.
They’ve also been partaking in several video calls back to their patronages back home.
Indeed it seems even in a state of lockdown, there’s no holding these two royals back.
