JBS USA learned of the problem on July 29, 2017, prompting the USDA’s media release. Fortunately, no cases have been reported of anyone being negatively affected by the styrofoam contamination. That said, the FSIS encourages those who are worried about any health concerns regarding the recall to contact their doctor.

The release contained no information about whether the meat at the distribution center in North Carolina was actually shipped to any other states, nor does it list stores with potentially contaminated meat.

If you have any concerns, feel free to contact the FSIS 24 hours a day at AskKaren.gov. You can also dial their toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 1-888-MPHotline (1-888-674-6854) Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern Time to speak to a representative in English or Spanish.
