Tim McGraw Has the Sweetest Reason for Getting Back in Shape at 52

Whether or not you’re a country music fan, you’ve probably noticed Tim McGraw rocking an impressively toned body lately. The multi-talented entertainer most recently performed at CMA Fest, and it wasn’t just the warm Tennessee air that brought some heat to the evening — McGraw’s loosely-buttoned shirt gave everyone quite an eye-full.

If you think back to his acting roles in films like The Blind Side and Four Christmases, McGraw has definitely made a noticeable difference in his physique, and his motivation for turning things around couldn’t be sweeter. “Here’s the truth of it — I was not taking care of myself. I was leaning on the success that I’ve had,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “My family is counting on me. I want to see my kids grow up, I want to be able to spend time with my grandkids.”

McGraw has been married to fellow country star Faith Hill since 1996. They have three daughters, Gracie, Maggie, and Audrey, who are all in their late teens and early 20s. McGraw also said he wants to make sure he is around to teach his future grandkids his favorite pastime: spearfishing. It might be difficult to notice anything other than his six-pack abs in the photo below, but he’s clearly a skilled fisherman. Look at the size of that… fish!

When he’s not working out, performing, or fishing, McGraw has also been promoting a book he co-authored with presidential historian Jon Meacham, Songs of America: Patriotism, Protest, and the Music That Made a Nation ($17.99, Amazon), which was released this week. In it, they unpack the stories behind America’s musical history dating back to the “Star-Spangled Banner” and beyond.

Besides being in the best shape of his career, McGraw clearly has a lot going on right now and we’ll be happy watching him while he works on whatever project comes next!
