Don’t Fall for the ‘Property Brothers’ Facebook Scam

Tags:

Heads up, HGTV fans: There’s a new scam making the rounds on the internet, and this one has to do with the beloved Property Brothers. It’s gotten so out of hand that Drew and Jonathan Scott actually had to speak up to warn their followers.

Recently, Facebook users have been receiving phony messages on the social networking site from people claiming to work on the hit show. These people send over a realistic-looking contract for a “construction proposal and agreement,” complete with Drew and Jonathan Scott’s “signatures” at the bottom. Don’t fall for it.

The Property Brothers warned their fans about the fake contract on their official Facebook page and told their fans to never give out personal or financial information to anyone who sends them a message of this nature. They also informed their followers that they would never contact anyone through an unverified account or an unverified email address, and reminded them to be on the lookout for a blue checkmark next to their Facebook page names to be sure they were communicating with the right people.

HGTV has also issued a statement on its website about being on the lookout for scams like this in general:

“We want to remind you that there are scammers who might want to take advantage of your love for HGTV, so please be careful of solicitations offering free home makeovers. If you believe that you’ve been contacted by an HGTV representative, you can confirm the authenticity of the communication by sending your name along with a scan of the letter or email you received to castingverification@scrippsnetworks.com. No other inquiries or solicitations will be addressed via this email account. If you’re interested in applying to be on one of our shows, please check out the listings below.”

Make sure all the Property Brothers fans in your life know!
