Everyone has their own way of coping with stress, especially right now with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic making such a huge impact on all our lives. For Dolly Parton, that means leaning into a specific bit of scripture that she’s relied on for strength over the years.

The country superstar shared her favorite Bible verse while chatting with Hoda Kotb, who has recently started asking her guests to share their favorite quotes, words they live by, and “beacons of light” that get them through tough times. “I actually think a lot about things that my mama used to say and things I learned in the church growing up,” Parton said. “And I still love the scripture that through ‘God all things are possible.’”

The simple verse, which comes from Matthew 19:26, has helped Parton throughout her life, not just in light of recent events. “I’ve always felt that was a good scripture to me,” she explained. “For me, even in my career, and when I’m setting out to do certain things, even when I feel weak within myself, I think that through God ‘I can do this. All things are possible.’”

Take a look at the video below to hear more from Parton, including another quote that’s been on her mind a lot lately:

Of course, Parton is known for providing a few wise words of her own that help her fans find strength during tough times. Along with countless lyrics from her classic songs, one of her adages that especially comes to mind is, “The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.”

When she’s not sharing uplifting scripture and encouraging quotes, Parton is also soothing our worried minds with weekly book-readings (which may technically be for kids, but adults can tune in, too). Plus, you can sing the chorus of one of her biggest hits, “Jolene,” to make sure you’re washing your hands for a full 20 seconds.

Whether you also lean on spiritual guidance during troubled times or not, Parton is right: We will get through this!
