August Is Set to Be an Unusually Cold Month, Experts Say
If you were bummed about the Weather Channel’s predictions that this fall was going to be extremely hot, turn that frown upside down!
According to the Weather Channel, temperatures this August won’t be “terribly summerlike,” if you live in central and eastern states. Weather will be cooler than average for those in the Plains and along the Eastern Seaboard as a result of an unusual weather pattern. A dip in the jet stream — which are air currents in our atmosphere — will lower temperatures by about 25 degrees in areas east of the Rockies, so it might be time to bring down the sweaters from the attic.

“This will make it feel more like early fall in many spots, including Chicago, where lows in the mid- to upper-50s are the average lows in early to mid-September, and Oklahoma City, where minimum temperatures in the mid-60s are expected in mid-September,” the Weather Channel reports.

States like Texas and Florida won’t be affected by the dip in temps, so y’all can go back to your 90-degree days (sorry!). Residents in the Pacific Northwest should also prepare for record highs this weekend. On the flip side, if you live in Midwestern states like Minnesota and Wisconsin, temperatures are expected to peak in the 50s — breezy!

So for all you summer-lovers wondering when it’ll warm up, don’t worry! This colder-than-normal weather is expected to last at least until mid-August, but if you live in the southeast or eastern part of the U.S., temperatures might be back to normal before that point. Phew!
