Once known as the most beautiful woman in the world, Elizabeth Taylor turned heads wherever she went. But just because she looked like a million bucks didn't mean she always spent a ton of money on her beauty products. Case in point: Her favorite drugstore lotion.
Tim Mendelson, who was Elizabeth's personal assistant and is now a trustee of her estate, revealed the icon's love of Jergens lotion to The Hollywood Reporter. "She put cream on but she didn't use fancy brands," Mendelson explained. Although Mendelson didn't specify which type of Jergens lotion she usually bought, the Jergens Original Scent Moisturizer ($7.53, Amazon) is still enormously popular today. Folks who are on the dry side may prefer the Ultra Healing Moisturizer ($7.40, Amazon) or the Daily Moisture Moisturizer ($7.53, Amazon).
Considering how affordable and recognizable these products are, it's pretty shocking to learn that Elizabeth Taylor used them for most of her life. We can't imagine how her Jergens bottles looked sitting next to her favorite luxury lip glosses, which included Dior, Chanel, and YSL, to name a few. But hey, if she swore by an affordable secret along with all that fancy makeup, who are we to argue?
Interestingly enough, Liz only began using expensive skincare products near the end of her life. According to Mendelson, she grew quite fond of La Prairie in particular — a brand which boasts the luxe Anti Aging Day Cream ($267.39, Amazon) and Skin Caviar Eye Lift Cream ($320.98, Amazon), for comparison. Phew — that sure doesn't sound like anything we've seen in Walgreens or CVS.
We guess when Elizabeth famously said, "I don't pretend to be an ordinary housewife," she meant it! Though the Jergens certainly makes her seem more relatable, right?
