There's a new recall affecting electric blankets and throws, and if you own one of those heated cover-ups, you'll definitely want to pay attention. Frighteningly enough, the reasons for the recall include burn risks and fire hazards.
Specifically, this recall involves 9,600 units of Rural King’s electric heated blankets and throws, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The blankets in question are 100 percent polyester and were sold in both cream and brown colors for between $30 and $60 at Rural King stores nationwide and online at www.ruralking.com from October 2017 through December 2017. They come in two sizes: 50 by 60 inches and 84 by 90 inches. The blankets' model numbers, which can be found on a corner tag, begin with BLV-OB and end with 200, 201A, 201B, 201C, 202, 202BN, 202CM, 203, 204A1, 204A2, 204A3, 204A2BR , 204A2CM, 205B1, 205B2, 205B3, or 206C1.
So far, Rural King has received four reports of these blankets overheating. Unfortunately, two reports involved fires and one burn injury to a customer's foot. So even if you don't think you purchased one of these specific blankets or throws, it's worth double-checking your electric blanket, just in case. You can never be too careful!
If you own one of these recalled blankets or throws, the CPSC is urging you to immediately stop using it and and contact Rural King by calling 800-561-1752 or visiting the company's website for instructions about getting a full refund.
But even if you didn't purchase one of these products, it's worth spreading the word about this recall to anyone you know who might have bought one. Let's all do our part to help keep our loved ones safe!
