But let’s say you’re the type of gal to reach for a sweet drink with your desserts. Maybe you have the mindset that if you’re going to treat yourself to that cake, you’re going to go all out and have that Diet Coke, too. In that case, you may want to stop yourself and get a glass of water instead.
We know, not fun, right? But according to Dr. Caroline Apovian, a sweet drink might not actually curb your thirst. “You’re not only confusing your energy balance system by putting more sugar into your body, but also getting a load of empty calories,” she told Health.com.
