Trim Inches and Balance Your Blood Sugar with These 3 Drinks Spiked With Ghee

Tags:

Ghee (also known as clarified butter) is made by boiling butter and filtering out the milk solids. That means this traditional Indian spread is free of the lactose and casein proteins that trigger GI problems in 58 percent of women over 35. Even better: It delivers a host of health perks!

It balances blood sugar.

Ghee contains a fatty acid (transpalmitoleic acid) that improves cells’ sensitivity to the blood sugar–balancing hormone insulin. In a Harvard study, people who had high circulating blood levels of this fat were 60 percent less likely to develop Type 2 diabetes.

It revs metabolism.

Ghee is a top source of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), a compound that blocks fat storage and spurs the growth of metabolism-revving lean muscle mass. The payoff: Women in a study at the University of Wisconsin who consumed CLA-rich foods daily dropped 20 percent of their body-fat stores in as little as 90 days.

It dials down appetite.

Sipping ghee-spiked drinks can help you feel full and satisfied for up to four hours, according to research in The Journal of Nutrition. Credit goes to ghee’s healthy fats, which reduce levels of hunger hormones by 35 percent.
