There Is Something Terrifying In This photo, But It’s So Hard to Spot
Many animals are extremely adept at blending into their surroundings. So much so, that even the most dangerous types can go unnoticed to the naked eye.
Case in point: a recent photo that has gone viral and is completely baffling the Internet.
The image is of what appears to be a forest floor. Except for a few plants on the edge of the photo, the entire composition is a mix of brown twigs and leaves. Seems pretty ordinary, right? Well, it turns out there is a snake–and a venomous one at that–located right in the middle of the photo!
Received this from a fellow HERper this morning. No caption needed, the task was implied: "can you spot the snake?" 🐍 pic.twitter.com/oVkjOm8ufy

After Helen finally pointed out the snake, some users acknowledged the post as more than just a simple brain teaser.
“Thanks for the help!” another person commented. “A cautionary tale for birders who are generally looking up!”
If y'all haven't found it yet… Copperhead, aka Agkistrodon contortrix. Cute but venomous, so no touchy! ☺️🐍❤️ pic.twitter.com/pSVMIhFP0o

Helen identified the snake as a Copperhead, a venomous species often found in Eastern North America. If you are ever bitten by this type of snake, experts say you should immediately go to the hospital. Yikes! Good thing she was able to spot the harmful reptile herself.
All in all, there’s no doubt we stared at this photo for at least 10 minutes before we finally gave up and looked at the spoiler. If you’re able to spot it on your first try, we’re seriously impressed!
