3 Collagen-Spiked Lattes That Turn Back the Clock

The powerful protein collagen plays a key role in nourishing joints, keeping skin cells plump and youthful, and optimizing metabolism, but the body’s natural production declines by 10 percent every decade after age 35. Luckily, it’s easy to increase your intake of collagen. Here’s what a daily dose can do for you:

Rev fat burn. Amino acids in collagen signal cells to burn fat for fuel. The proof: A study in the British Journal of Nutrition found that subjects who took collagen daily lost 155 percent more fat and built 45 percent more lean muscle over 12 weeks than those who did not get the protein.

Ease aches and pains. Collagen sips can help keep soreness at bay, thanks to the protein’s rich stores of anti-inflammatory glycine. In fact, research in the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture showed 63 percent of osteoarthritis patients given collagen daily reported less pain and overall improved quality of life.

Erase wrinkles. These creamy sips can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines by 24 percent in 60 days, according to research in the journal Clinical Interventions in Aging. Credit goes to proteins in collagen, which improve skin cell elasticity and suppleness.

FIRST pick: We love Vital Proteins Collagen Peptide powder ($40.85, Amazon) because it dissolves well in creamy sips and has 20 grams of high-quality, grass-fed collagen in every serving.
