Sarah Jessica Parker Defends Her Gray Hair And Blasts People Who Criticize Aging Beauty

Tags:

Sarah Jessica Parker has gray hair, and she won’t apologize for it. The famous blonde has let her roots grow in and is sporting the bold new look in the upcoming Sex and the City sequel series, much like a slew of famous starlets who have decided to let their natural hair shine. But the 56-year-old actress quickly experienced criticism about her look — and it’s a problem women know all too well.

The chatter picked up when Parker was seen sporting gray locks while filming the series and grabbing a bite to eat with Bravo host Andy Cohen. The host is known for his gray hair, which he’s kept for years, yet Parker felt it was unfair people on social media were criticizing her for doing the same.

“There’s so much misogynist chatter in response to us that would never. Happen. About. A. Man,” she said in a recent Vogue interview, reportedly clapping with every word. “Gray hair gray hair gray hair. Does she have gray hair?’ I’m sitting with Andy Cohen and he has a full head of gray hair, and he’s exquisite. Why is it okay for him?”

There’s been a bit of a reckoning recently in Hollywood as women have been standing up against beauty standards that seem to apply to only one gender. After all, George Clooney is still seen as a total heartthrob even after his hair turned completely gray. As he should! But Parker thinks it’s time for women to be given the same grace when they age.

“Especially on social media. Everyone has something to say. ‘She has too many wrinkles, she doesn’t have enough wrinkles,’ ” Parker said. “It almost feels as if people don’t want us to be perfectly okay with where we are, as if they almost enjoy us being pained by who we are today, whether we choose to age naturally and not look perfect, or whether you do something if that makes you feel better.”

The actress has a very blunt outlook on the matter. “I know what I look like. I have no choice,” she said. “What am I going to do about it? Stop aging? Disappear?”

There’s one thing Parker makes clear: Women shouldn’t stop living just because they’re aging. So if you find yourself feeling insecure about your changing looks, remember how this fashionable actress embraces it. It’s the best way to feel comfortable in your skin!
