I Finally Stopped My Inner Thigh Chafing With This $14 Anti-Chafing Stick

While there are numerous benefits to the summer and its warm weather, there's one negative in particular that women know to be true: thigh chafing. So when Megababe's Thigh Rescue anti-chafing product debuted to much acclaim, I was more than intrigued. It isn't the first anti-chafing stick to hit the market, so what made this colorful little tube stand out from the rest? I put it to the test to find out.

What is thigh chafing?

Before we get to the actual product, let's break down the science behind thigh chafing for anyone lucky enough to be unfamiliar with the experience. Thigh chafing is the result of consistent skin-to-skin contact (better known as rubbing) between your thighs, which causes friction and can lead to a burning, bumpy rash. Whether it's from exercising or merely being a woman whose thighs touch, the warm summer weather can exacerbate this issue due to wearing more clothing, such as shorts and sundresses, prone to inner thigh chafing.

Megababe Thigh Rescue Anti-Chafing Stick Review

So, let's talk about Megababe. Founded by The 12ish Style's Kate Sturino, her sister Jenny Sturino, and friend Kate McPherson, this isn't your average beauty brand. At Megababe, you won't find a hundred shades of lipstick or the buzziest foundations, but what you will find are beauty products you didn't even know you needed. The thought process lies with finding simple solutions to everyday problems women experience — like thigh chafing!

And a solution it is. Packaged in a vintage-inspired deodorant-like tube, Megababe's Thigh Rescue ($14, Ulta) is a quick and easy way to kiss thigh chafing goodbye. Made with a blend of anti-inflammatory and antiseptic ingredients, like aloe, grapeseed oil, and lime oil, this balm creates a soothing barrier on the skin, allowing thighs to glide against one another without causing any irritation.

When it comes to my personal experience, I was floored by this product. I've tried every preventative home remedy from baby powder and vaseline to deodorant and, yes, even vaginal cream, to no avail. So, you could imagine how nervous I was the first day I tried this. Before Thigh Rescue, I wouldn't dare walk out of my house in a dress without a pair of shorts beneath. But armed with an extra pair of shorts (just to be safe), I made my way to work on a 90-degree day in my favorite sundress praying I'd make it there rash-free. Not only did I make it there, I lasted the entire day on one application. While my initial affair with Megababe was short-lived (hot cars and this balmy product don't mix), I'm hooked. As long as they keep making this product, they'll have a fan for life.

How to Heal Thigh Chafing

While Mega Babe's Thigh Rescue can help prevent and treat thigh chafing, if you're already past the point of no return, there's some general information to know when it comes to healing inner thigh chafing. Here are five easy steps to treat and heal thigh chafing.

1. Clean the area. As with any skin irritation, the first step is to clean the area. However, as thigh chafing can lead to tiny, open sores, you'll want to opt for a mild cleanser, such as Vanicream's Sensitive Skin Cleansing Bar ($8.09, Amazon). Remember, cleansing is the most important step. It will wash away any sweat or dirt trapped in the skin, leading to proper healing. Also, be sure you pat the skin dry to prevent further irritation.

2. Disinfect and protect. As mentioned, this heat rash typically leads to tiny sores which should be treated with a antiseptic to prevent any kind of infection. While any kind of disinfecting ointment will do, I prefer a natural one, like emuaidMAX First Aid Ointment ($58, Amazon). Long-lasting, a small amount of this tea-tree oil rich ointment goes a long way and heals the skin in record time.

3. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Follow up this care with a soothing moisturizer to lock in hydration and aid in the healing process. One of my favorite body lotions is the Olive and Aloe Body Lotion from Kiss My Face ($13.29, Amazon). Gentle and fragrance-free, this moisturizer is rich enough to get the job done but light enough that it won't irritate healing skin.

4. Cover it up. Whether it be with band-aids or loose clothing, keeping the area covered for the time being is the best way to go. Not only will it lessen the pain, it will prevent the possibility of further chafing and give the skin the time it needs to heal on its own.

5. Pick up a pair of anti-chafing shorts. Looking for an alternative solution to thigh chafing? One of the best anti-chafing products for women, anti-chafing shorts ($15, Bare Necessities) are a must have during the thigh chafing healing process and also make a great backup for times in between your Megababe sticks!
