Whether you’re just trying to eat healthier or striving to lose 10, 20, or 50 plus pounds, let these real women who have met (and exceeded) their goals inspire you to get started to the healthiest, happiest you possible.

Take Reddit user Moonlites, for example. When she hit 252 pounds, the 5-foot-5-inch brunette knew she needed to make some changes. So she did just that and joined a gym. There, she found a personal trainer who worked with her on a doable workout routine and diet that helped her shed 137 pounds so far.

Using a combination of body weight exercises, cardio, and yoga, Moonlites has not only totally smashed her goal of weighing under 200 pounds but also surpassed her second goal of getting to 150. You go, girl! And with the help of her trainer, she’s designed a high-protein, low-carb diet that’s supplemented with lots of veggies, some fruits, and healthy fats. She also counts her calories using MyFitnessPal, a free phone app and online website that helps people track their food intake.

Another secret to her weight loss: making progress bit by bit.

“I broke it up into 10 pounds at a time in my head. That way there was always something to look forward to—getting to the next tens place! And it happened pretty quickly at least early on.”

Every time you lose 10 pounds, treat yourself to a piece of chocolate or that glass of wine. Little victories add up, and it’s important not to deprive yourself of things you enjoy if you really want to find a new lifestyle you can stick with.

Her last piece of advice? Take lots of pictures to remind yourself just how much progress you’re making.

“It’s the only way that would force me to see how well I was doing, even when I still had such a long way to go, and helped kept me motivated to keep at it.”
