Dry Nail Polish in Seconds

This time of year we want our nails to look beautiful, but all the cooking and cleaning can wreak havoc on a pretty manicure. And if we try to do a quick mani or polish touch-up, we’re rendered idle for 10 minutes, waiting for the paint to dry…who has the time? What’s more, using some of the well-known fast-drying tricks (i.e. blasting nails with a hair dryer or spraying them with Pam) dry only the top layer, which can lead to divots and smudges.

The good news: There’s no need to sacrifice pretty nails or precious time. Here’s the double-duty trick that dries nails fast and flawlessly:

Step 1: Before painting nails, fill a small bowl with ice water. After painting two thin coats of color (before applying the top coat), dip your nails in the water for 30 seconds. The cold helps solidify every layer of polish, making the finish divot-proof.

Step 2: After soaking, immediately apply a quick-dry top coat (like Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Anti-Chip Top Coat, $6, at to seal and dry the lacquer and protect against smudges.
