Avocado Butter Is the Superfood Condiment You’ll Want to Slather on All Your Meals

Tags:

Doesn’t it seem like there’s a new way to use avocados popping up on a daily basis? It makes a lot of sense considering all of the health benefits (like blues-busting levels of fiber) you can find inside the humble fruit. The popular superfood can even be used to dye clothes a subtle and surprising shade of pink! Of course, the best way to enjoy all the benefits of avocado is by adding the produce to our favorite meals. Even the pit is packed with plenty of nutrients you can unlock by simmering it as a broth.

Noelle Tarr and Stefani Ruper, the authors of Coconuts and Kettlebells: A Personalized 4-Week Food and Fitness Plan for Long-Term Health, Happiness, and Freedom ($19.49, Amazon), shared another unique way to use avocados: turning them into butter! Their recipe combines one medium avocado with 1/4 cup of ghee (a type of clarified butter that originates from India) to make a creamy, savory spread. They also add ingredients like garlic, lime, cilantro, and other spices, but you can get creative with your favorite flavors. Be sure to scrape all of the green goodness from the avocado, especially the extra-nutritious parts clinging to the peel.

Just toss everything into a food processor and pulse until totally blended, then spread that out onto parchment paper and roll it up into a log. The butter will need to chill in the fridge for a few hours before you can start spreading it on crackers and toast, but the wait will be worth it. The options are pretty endless for how you can get the most use out of this yummy new twist on creamy butter. Imagine smearing it on your bread for a grilled cheese rather than the traditional butter, or as a perfect topping for a steaming baked potato. If your mouth isn’t already watering, just wait until you blend up your own batch and give it a taste!
