Amazon Will Now Deliver Freshly Cut Christmas Trees of All Sizes to Your Front Door

If you like to schedule your holiday plans down to the last drop of gravy at Christmas dinner, you've probably already purchased, expertly wrapped, and hidden the family's presents. And now there's one more item you can cross off your Christmas to-do list: the tree.

Starting this November, Amazon shoppers can buy live Christmas trees, wreaths, and garlands through the online retailer. We're talking seven-foot Douglas firs and Norfolk Island pines — the real deal. Amazon says the trees will be packaged and shipped to consumers within 10 days of being cut down, so these fresh trees should survive the ride just fine. That said, you may get some odd glances from your neighbors when an eight-foot box shows up at your door.

Shoppers can pre-order their greenery and schedule a delivery date to alleviate holiday stress. For Amazon Prime members, the deal gets a little bit sweeter: free shipping on certain orders.

Amazon's Christmas trees aren't cheap — $115 for a seven-foot Fraser fir and $50 for a wreath — but that's the price you pay for saving yourself the stress of herding the family into the car, trying to find parking, and potentially battling other families for the perfect tree.

Last year, the shipping giant offered a similar service, but the only trees you could buy directly from Amazon were smaller than three feet; taller trees had to be purchased through other merchants in Amazon's Marketplace.

Online sales only account for roughly one to two percent of overall Christmas tree sales, according to Tim O’Connor, the executive director of the National Christmas Tree Association. So as of now, it seems unlikely that Amazon's Christmas tree delivery program will attract a huge portion of shoppers away from buying a tree in person. Despite the hassle and stress, it seems like the annual family trip to find the best Christmas tree will continue to be a cherished part of the holiday for many people.
