These days, having a spare bedroom or home office is considered a luxury, let alone a separate studio. The cost of extending your home or simply adding on another room can quickly quash any perceived need for extra space and so you go on, accommodating guests on the couch or using your dining table as a desk. But what if we told you you could have that spare room, yoga studio, office, or teenage retreat without going over your renovation budget?
A DIY cabin retreat ($7,250, Amazon) recently caught our eye, and now it's the only thing we can think about. With a footprint of 172 square feet, the "Sovalla" Garden House by Allwood is the ideal size for a guest house or home office. With an estimated assembly time of eight hours for two adults, you wouldn't want it to be any bigger. Made from high quality Nordic wood, it also boasts large windows and an undercover outdoor pavilion. It looks like a tiny home you could actually live in until you remember there is no kitchen or bathroom.
The price isn't so bad when you consider "a ground level house extension costs around $2,200 [or more] per square foot," according to Refresh Renovations. And that's if everything goes according to plan.
We could use the extra space, couldn't you?
