After Her Police Officer Husband Was Killed in the Line of Duty, a Strange Package Arrived for Their Little Boy

Tags:

Sadly, 33-year-old Blake Snyder, a St. Louis, MO police officer, was killed in the line of duty in October. Since then, his wife, Elizabeth, has struggled with her grief, and tried to desperately to keep her husband’s memory alive for their 2-year-old son, Malachi.

She got a major hand in that endeavor this week when she and Malachi received a strange package in the mail: two brand new teddy bears from a company called Thea’s Blessing Bears. They weren’t just any teddy bears; the company’s owner Thea Gain had made them out of Malachi’s late daddy’s police uniforms.

“She wanted us to have a piece of Blake with us, always,” Elizabeth told TODAY Parents, after posting a photo of Malachi holding the teddy bears on her Facebook page.

“Being a single parent is very tough, but still rewarding. Malachi is Blake’s legacy and will always know just exactly what his father did for not only him, but also his community.”

It turns out, the bears were created at the request of anonymous police wife from Granite City, Illinois, who wanted to comfort the grieving widow.

“What has surprised me the most is just how amazing our community has been. They have come out in droves for us and still continue to support us. I had no idea how big my family was, blood and blue,” Snyder wrote in another post about her devastating loss. “We couldn’t be more grateful.”

We’re so glad Malachi has two sweet bears to hug that will forever remind him of his brave father.
