10-Year-Old Is Bitten by an Alligator and Angels Are the Only Explanation for What Happened Next

When a young girl was bitten by an alligator in Florida, her death-defying escape proves there are absolutely guardian angels out there.

In what could be described as a miracle, 10-year-old Juliana Ossa freed herself using techniques her parents said she learned at Gatorland Water Park. Ossa punched the gator in the nose and poked at its nostrils with her bare hands before finally prying open the 8-foot-9-inch-long alligator’s mouth, which was wrapped around her leg, and freeing herself, according to ABC News.

Ossa, who was playing in the designated swimming area at Lake Mary Jane in Orlando, screamed when the alligator bit down, alerting other people in the area. The little girl was in water only two feet deep.

“A group of people were swimming in the lake and a little girl about 10 years old started screaming,” said Emiliano Aquino, who helped Ossa. “I realized that she was screaming that she got bit by an alligator. At this point I couldn’t see anything but a couple of seconds later, I saw the alligator so I ran towards the water.”

Ossa was helped out of the water, and two lifeguards worked to bandage her leg. She had bite wounds on the back of her leg and thigh, and had ten stitches put in. Fortunately, she’s still able to walk.

“Got the child out of the water real quick. Grabbed the child, notified everybody to get out of the water, while the lifeguards were blowing the whistles. It was just a joint effort by the patrons,” said Matt Suedmeyer of Orange County Parks and Recreation.

Donald Aldarelli, a professional gator wrangler who works at Gatorland, applauded Ossa’s quick thinking.

“To get an animal with the strongest bite on the planet to let go of you is a miracle,” he said.

We’re happy little Juliana is safe and relatively unharmed. We’re sending her lots of get-well wishes!
