A ‘Trading Spaces’ Star Took a Dig at Joanna Gaines and We’re Not Impressed

Shots fired! During the Television Critics Association press tour, a journalist asked a panel of stars from Trading Spaces — which is being revived this Spring — about their least-favorite home-design trends, and host Paige Davis was quick to take a jab at Fixer Upper star Joanna Gaines.

“I’m wondering if you are in agreement for certain types of design trends to disappear and what some of your pet peeves are and some of the things that you have to talk homeowners out of — like, strongly — and steer them away from?” the reporter asked the cast. “Like shiplap?” Paige quipped. Yeah… because putting atent and dirt in a living room is a much better look.

The beloved HGTV star was one of the first major designers to really embrace “shiplap,” which is a design technique in which wooden boards are arranged so that each panel overlaps the one below it. The rustic but chic look is a tribute to old historic farmhouses and homes.

Luckily, no amount of low blows will get Joanna down. She and her hubby, Chip Gaines, recently revealed they’re expecting baby number five! “Gaines party of 7!” wrote Chip, with his signature goofy sense of humor. In the silly photo, Joanna is feeling Chip’s dad-gut while she’s sporting a big baby bump of her own. “(If you’re still confused… WE ARE PREGNANT)” clarified the reality star. So exciting!

Chip and Joanna are already parents to Drake, Ella, Duke, and Emmie (in that order). In other words: Nice try, Paige! But this family has too much to look forward to for haters to get them down.

Trading Spaces returns to TLC on Saturday, April 7 at 9 p.m. EST.
