How to Save Money on Flowers While Beautifying Your Home

Tags:

Flowers have an incredible ability to brighten just about any room they’re placed in. However, they can also cause you to shell out way more of your hard-earned cash than necessary. Don’t worry, this doesn’t mean you have to give up your beloved bouquets if you’re trying to save money right now. It just means that it’s time to get a little creative — learn how with the savvy spending tips below.

1. DIY your own “flowers.”

There’s no shortage of complicated paper flower patterns available online, but you don’t have to break out the whole craft box to create your own artificial flowers. All you need is pinecones — yes, pinecones! — and some standard acrylic craft paint to create stunning painted pinecone zinnias.

2. Opt for a potted plant.

We love pretty vases as much as the next person, but we all know flowers don’t last super long inside of them. Why not treat yourself to a budding flower that’ll continue to bloom and thrive right before your very eyes long after you buy it? Talk about a gift that keeps on giving!

3. Pay attention to when certain flowers are in season.

In-season flowers tend to be more readily available than those that aren’t, so they’re usually less pricey. It’s also worth keeping in mind that some holidays can also be linked with higher prices on certain flowers. (Ever tried purchasing roses around Valentine’s Day? Yikes.)

4. Try to buy local if you can.

Ordering flowers online might seem convenient, but this can also be pricier, especially once you factor in any shipping fees. Check out the Society of American Florists’ National Florists Directory to find florists near you, or visit a nearby grocery store to see if they have a floral selection.

5. Add greenery to your bunch.

Greenery not only adds more texture and shape to a bouquet, it can also potentially save you some extra money that you might’ve spent on extra flowers. Just keep a close eye on the price of every pretty plant that you pick — you’d be surprised by how quickly it adds up!
