Hoda Kotb Celebrates Daughter’s First Birthday From the Olympics

Can you believe Haley Joy Kotb is already a year old? Hoda Kotb’s daughter rang in her first birthday on Wednesday, February 14, but because the TODAY star is in Pyeongchang, South Korea, where she’s covering the Olympics, she celebrated a little early. “It’s already Valentine’s Day in South Korea and I am missing my Valentine’s baby! We celebrated little Haley’s birthday before I left. Admittedly, I could have been a bit better with camera placement,” Hoda, 53, captioned an Instagram video of herself singing “Happy Birthday” to her adorable little girl.

Hoda later returned to Instagram to share a few more photos from baby Haley’s first birthday celebration. The first photo was a close-up of her homemade cake with frosting that read, “Yay Haley!” The next two images were of Hoda holding her little girl while showing off her cute cake. After the NBC veteran shared the photos online, many of her Instagram followers were quick to send Haley their birthday wishes.

“Happy Birthday, Haley Joy! I’m sure your momma is missing you!” one person wrote with another adding, “Love that her first birthday cake was made with love from her momma!” Hoda’s TODAY co-stars Savannah Guthrie and Al Roker are also in Pyeongchang. Like Hoda, Savannah, 46, is a mom and had to leave her two kids, daughter Vale, 3, and son Charley, 1, at home in New York while working abroad.

During a recent interview, both Hoda and Savannah opened up about the hardships of being without their children while in South Korea. “I mean, it’s an adjustment. There’s no question. When you’re a mom, your heart is always where your kids are,” Savannah told Entertainment Tonight. Hoda added, “Savannah’s daughter just FaceTimed her and it was the cutest thing. She was playing Bananagrams, and it’s a moment in her life. She was spelling words and it was like the coolest little moment and that will sustain us. You get one of those and you go, ‘OK.'”

Thankfully, the two mamas have each other to help them through being away from their little ones while working. “We’re lucky, we don’t travel all that often. This is unusual that we’re gone this long, so we’re holding onto each other, and we’re having a great time and being in the moment — and we’re going to race home to those babies,” Savannah added.
