How to Fix a Broken Zipper Without Sewing

Tags:

Knowing how to fix a broken zipper without sewing it will save you so much money in the long run. Instead of donating your perfectly good jacket (albeit one with a broken zipper), all you need to do is reach for a pair of scissors or pliers.

You have two choices when it comes to reattaching a zipper to its tracks. The first method involves removing some teeth from the tracks opposite the zipper. Then, you can cleanly slide your zipper back on the tracks and zip it up. Confused? Watch the step-by-step video below to see how it’s done!

There’s no question that zippers can be your best friend — especially on the cold winter days when coats, jackets, and pants need to be extra snug and secure to keep you warm. That’s why it can be disastrous when a zipper breaks. Lucky for you there’s a second method for fixing a separated zipper if the above technique seems too complicated.

First, pull the zipper as far down as you can. Note where the slider is, and cut between the teeth on the opposite side. This will allow you to easily rethread the slide and pull up your zipper. Pretty easy, right? See this technique in action in the video below.

The nice thing about this no-sew method is that you won’t accidentally muck up your pants by attaching a new zipper. All you have to do is make a few snips with your scissors, et voilà — a working zipper. No one will even be able to tell (although you can give yourself a pat on the back for your handiwork).
