This year, celebrate Halloween by honoring your pooch with his or her very own pumpkin portrait, or as the cool kids say, a dog-o-lantern. A dog-o-lantern is literally what it sounds like —it’s a pumpkin with a carving of your pup’s face on it.
One particular dog-o-lantern making headlines is Pomeranian owner Andy Manoloff’s majestic carving of his pup Sophie. Using a Xacto knife (available on Amazon for $6), Manoloff transformed a plump pumpkin into a realistic portrait of his precious Pomeranian.
“I did a drawing of Sophie a few years back that I really liked,” Manoloff said. “I was trying to think of something fun and different for this year, since I usually do pumpkins of superheroes — I’ve previously done Iron Man, Batman, Spiderman, Optimus Prime, Rocket and Groot, etc.—and I thought, I have this great image of Sophie and I thought it could make a really neat, fun pumpkin. So, I did it and I posted the photo with her to Reddit and it sort of blew up from there.”
Don’t let Manoloff’s dog-o-lantern intimidate you; even a novice can create a picturesque dog-o-lantern. Here are a few creative ones we couldn’t help but share.
