‘Will & Grace’ Revival Has Been Renewed for Season Three

Tags:

We knew they were on to a winner when a Will & Grace revival was announced, and now it seems the producers knew it too. What started as a 10 minute web episode urging the public to vote in the 2016 election has transformed into one of the greatest TV show comebacks of its age.

Not only has it been renewed for a third season (or eleventh, if you’re counting the original run), but both seasons two and three are expanding. Originally only 13 episodes, NBC has ordered an additional five, bringing the total to 18 episodes for each season.

With the final two episodes of the first season still yet to air, the confident renewal for a third speaks of more good things to come (read: more memorable Karen Walker quotes). Its original eight-season run from 1998 to 2006 saw Will & Grace pick up a huge 16 Emmy Awards. Since its return, the show has received wide critical acclaim for its topical take on everything from politics to divorce.

“There’s certainly a pressure to live up to it this time around but we knew we could be these characters again,” Eric McCormack, who plays Will Truman, said at LA’s PaleyFest over the weekend. “I just feel like this has been a magic carpet ride, this reboot.”

Even more magical was Megan Mullally’s (who plays Karen) apparent “psychic” prediction of the show’s return. “I emailed [creator] Max Mutchnick, and I said, ‘Why can’t we just do the show again?’,” she revealed at the panel. “And he emailed back, ‘We can.'” She added, “Neither of us knew, but I just got this strong, incredibly overpowering feeling that we would do the show again.”

Season one of the revival has already seen a number of guest stars pop by Will’s iconic apartment including singer Jennifer Lopez and actress Jane Lynch. We hear Alec Baldwin will also reprise his role as Karen’s lover before the season ends.

With so much star-power, we can only hope many more episodes will follow.
