What Is Blue Majik? The Prettiest Superfood Is Full of Vitamins

The undeniably gorgeous (and photogenic!) superfood Blue Majik has been growing in popularity in recent years. Beauty isn’t the only thing that this nutrient-rich ingredient has going for it. Once you learn about all the benefits of Blue Majik, you’ll definitely want a taste. Remember: Always talk to your doctor before trying any new supplement.

Blue Majik is an extract of spirulina microalgae. While algae is typically known for having more of a greenish shade, Blue Majik is derived from a unique blue-green form of algae. A product created by the superfood company E3 Live, Blue Majik is typically sold in the form of powder ($48.05, Amazon) and capsules ($32.30, Amazon). However, many other health-conscious companies have added Blue Majik as a super-charging ingredient to smoothies, bars, and even lattes. Some individuals have even taken matters into their own hands to create these types of nutritious, delicious, and absolutely stunning dishes and drinks in their own homes.

While the thought of eating any form of algae may sound a bit, well, unappetizing, it’s worth noting that people have been consuming different types of spirulina for a long time — at least as far back as an Aztec civilization in the 14th century. According to the Journal of Medicinal Food, this practice is still around today for good reasons. The blue-green algae form of spirulina is impressively rich in essential amino acids, fibers, calcium, phosphorous, and iron. Studies have shown that blue-green algae also boast antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Furthermore, human clinical trials of supplementation with several species of spirulina showed improvement of blood pressure and cholesterol for patients with type 2 diabetes.

Experts say spirulina is generally safe to consume for most folks out there. However, if you’re pregnant or nursing, it’s best to consult a doctor before trying it out in any form. It’s also worth noting that some individuals have reported “discomfort” after supplementing blue-green algae. So if you feel uncomfortable at all after trying Blue Majik, keep in mind that there are plenty of other superfoods out there for you to enjoy.

But if Blue Majik truly works its “magic” on you, then you can feel free to add it to an occasional meal if you like. Until you get more comfortable with the ingredient, your best bet is probably to mix the ingredient with morning smoothies (perhaps with blueberries in the mix) or other blended recipes such as chia seed pudding. As you get more comfortable with the ingredient, you can try experimenting more. Who knows? You might come up with a brand-new Blue Majik recipe of your own!
