When it comes to toilet brushes, hygienic options are few and far between. Traditional toilet brushes may look clean enough, but there are millions of teeny tiny bacteria living in your toilet that are invisible to the eye that can cling to bristles and multiply once the brush has been returned to its holder. As hygiene expert Stephanie C. from Expert Home Tips told The Sun, “Bacteria thrives in moist environments, so storing your toilet brush in this way encourages germ multiplication.” So, what’s a health-conscious gal to do?

Sure, you could try a disposable toilet brush, but it won’t exactly be cost-effective — or environmentally friendly. Wouldn’t it be nice if there were some middle ground? Turns out, there is!

Sanimaid

Amazon

While we’re still waiting for a self-cleaning toilet brush to hit the market for purchase, this SO-MINE Sanimaid ($24.95, Amazon) is a happy medium. Its innovative, silicone design (which took home the 2017 Global Innovation Award for Best Innovative Cleaning Product) uses the same swipe-clean technology as a windshield wiper.

It’s got an antibacterial, silver ion handle that claims to kill up to 99.9 percent of bacteria, helping to get your bowl clean without becoming a breeding ground for germs. Its flat head gets under the toilet seat rim and its flexible wings and scrubbing grooves offer up a 360 degree clean to make sure you get each and every nook and cranny. Plus, it comes with an easy-to-use wall mount for storage that can be removed for cleaning.

Best of all, however, its silicone is water-repellant and dripless, meaning no more dirty toilet bowl water on the floor as you transfer it back into its holder.

According to Amazon reviewers, it takes a bit to get used to the new technique, but once you’ve got it down, you’ll be golden — and germ-free!

One purchaser wrote: “Because it was so different from what I’ve always done, it took a few minutes to get the hang of using this product, but then I was truly impressed. Don’t get me wrong, you’re still cleaning a toilet, it’s not going to be the highlight of your day — but this product is quick, efficient, and clean.”

Added another: “This is a great-looking, great-working, product. Works much better than a brush. You just have to get the hang of it, though.”

Once you do? You just may be as happy as this woman, who raved, “I believe I may never need to buy another toilet brush.”
