Beauty Fanatics Are Calling This The ‘Holy Grail’ of Sunscreen

We should all wear sunscreen on a regular basis, but some of us are guilty of avoiding it more often than we should because of the greasy feeling or chalky residue it tends to leave behind on our skin. Luckily, there’s a “holy grail” of sunscreens that will protect without clogging pores or making you feel extra sticky.

Bioré Aqua Rich Watery Essence Sunscreen ($14.91, Amazon) is from Japan — one of the top countries for skincare in the world — but you can easily order it online. Just be sure to read the reviews carefully to make sure you’re not wasting money on a knockoff. Beauty fans are obsessed with this sunblock, raving about it in forums and reviews.

One Amazon user wrote, “Holy Grail SPF! Nothing compares!” Another raved, “This stuff feels hydrating to my dry skin, doesn’t feel greasy, melts in without any leftover chalkiness or white cast, doesn’t sting my skin, and doesn’t mess with the makeup I put on over the top. Plus it’s not outrageously expensive like some sunscreens I’ve seen recommended.” She did, however, mention that shipping can take awhile with the international distances.

Another user on Reddit’s Skincare Addiction page shared impressive UV photos of the product not fading on her skin, even after running errands for two hours on a hot day. Other members of the group posted photos of them hoarding multiple bottles of it at a time, either from bulk orders or asking family members to pick it up for them on trips to Asia. It’s important to note that the product is meant for daily protection where you’re not spending more than a few hours outside, unlike those made for sports or withstanding water.

One more note to keep in mind, though, is the ingredients include a hefty amount of alcohol. This makes it thin rather than greasy when you apply it, but that can potentially dry out skin. If you decide to give it a try, be sure to do a patch test before applying it all over — especially when it comes to your face.

Even when it’s not the warm summer months, we should always slather any exposed skin with sunscreen before spending time outdoors. If this product doesn’t work out, you should still hunt down your own “holy grail” to keep those rays away.
