Prince Harry Has Asked Prince William to Be His Best Man

Tags:

That’s what brothers are for! Kensington Palace revealed on April 26 that Prince William will serve as Prince Harry‘s best man at his upcoming wedding to Meghan Markle.

“Prince Harry has asked his brother, The Duke of Cambridge, to be his Best Man at his wedding to Ms. Meghan Markle. Prince Harry served as best man to The Duke of Cambridge at his wedding to Miss Catherine Middleton in 2011,” the statement, paired with a plethora of adorable photos of the two, read. “The Duke of Cambridge is honoured to have been asked, and is very much looking forward to supporting his brother at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor on May 19th.” How sweet!

Many royal fans are surprised how long it took Kensington Palace to reveal this exciting news, especially after William joked in January that Harry hadn’t asked him yet. “He hasn’t asked me yet, just to clear that up. It could be a sensitive subject,” William quipped at the time.

Some also thought Harry may not have wanted to burden William, who just welcomed his third baby with wife Kate Middleton on April 23. This especially became a speculation after it was reported that Kate won’t be taking on an official role at Harry and Meghan’s nuptials next month.

“Frankly, Harry and Meghan are just happy that Kate will be there, given that she will only just have given birth. They have told her there is no pressure on her to do anything, they just want her to enjoy the day,” a source told Vanity Fair. “[Harry and Meghan] just want Kate to be able to enjoy the day and not worry about anything. Harry has said there’s no pressure on her to do anything. They know Kate will have her hands full.”

Meanwhile, it’s expected that Prince George and Princess Charlotte will serve as a ring bearer and flower girl, respectively. We wonder if royal baby No. 3 will take part in the special event as well. We’re counting down the days until we get to find out!
