As pretty as freshly-fallen snow can be, it can also be somewhat dangerous when paired with slick ice. In 2017 alone, there were a whopping 20,460 cases of ice, sleet, and snow-related injuries, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. For those of us in our golden years, who already experience difficulty with getting around, slippery ground can be even more treacherous — unless you’re wearing NAOT boots, that is!

The Israeli-based shoe company’s entire winter boot collection, including its latest Vail release ($249.95, Originally $250, Amazon), was built with your safety in mind. Not only are its rubber soles slip-resistant, they’re equipped with the a patented “OC Grip” system — a specially-designed insert that’s built into the bottom of the boot and can be flipped over with an included tool for added traction in the form of miniature ice picks.

Once the danger has passed, you can flip the system right back over to proceed on safer ground. (Check out the video below to see them in action.)

These innovative kicks also just so happen to be some of the warmest winter boots around, thanks to a four-layer, wool, weather-tech lining with synthetic fur that makes them suitable for wear in climates up to -4 degrees Fahrenheit — yowza!

Other extra-nice features include a partly waterproof, partly water-resistant upper and a removable suede-covered cork footbed that will make you feel like you’re walking on a cloud.

Those without a penchant for laces can opt for Naot’s zip-up Alaska boots (from $239.95, Amazon), which are also equipped with the OC Grips and are rated for 4 below.

Raved one reviewer: “These boots work excellent on slippery roads, and sidewalks!”

Another praised their warmth, writing, “These are the most comfortable, warmest, best boots on the market. They have a feature to flip the sole piece with ice grips or keep it tucked flat. Amazing!!!! The most fashionable and warmest boots for the coldest possible conditions.”

We don’t know about you, but we’ll gladly pay a little extra for our winter footwear if it means preventing a nasty spill.

Safe travels!
