January is all about “New year, new me,” resolutions that usually involve losing weight, drinking more water, and sleeping more. Instead of crashing mid-month, keep your resolution and take a bite of Mochi’s newest low-calorie snack —My/Mo Mochi Ice Cream. It’s basically a portable dessert that you can just pop in the freezer and eat whenever you’re feeling particularly crave-y.

My/Mo Flavors

My/Mo Mochi Ice Cream, although it sounds kind of weird, is a delicious little ice cream snack wrapped in sweet rice mochi dough. The best part about this snack? It’s only 110 calories and comes in seven flavors, including Vanilla Bean, Mint Chocolate chip, Sweet Mango, Ripe Strawberry, Cookies & Cream, Green Tea, and Double Chocolate. Not sure which flavor you’d be into? Check out My/MoMochi Ice Cream’s “What’s Your Flavor?” quiz to find out. It’ll ask you fun questions like “Where can we find you on a Sunday afternoon?” and “What is your favorite animal?”

What is mochi?

What is “mochi,” exactly? For starters, the term “mochi” is a Japanese word that basically means “rice cake” (but instead of being tasteless and dry, they’re chewy and soft). If you were to eat a tiny piece of mochi — let’s say the size of a matchbox — it would be close to the equivalent of eating an entire bowl of rice — which, according to the My/Mo website, is how mochi became popular among the Samurai warriors (members of the Japanese military) years ago.

Because the soldiers had to find food that was portable, filling, and tasty, they decided to opt for mochi. During the Japanese Heian period, mochi was made out of red rice and used in religious rituals in the Shinto religion. It was often referred to as “Food for the Gods,” and promised a happy and unbroken marriage to those who ate it.

How about that? A delicious (low-calorie) snack that’s not only filling, but brings good fortune as well!
