This Easy Hack Will Make Any Protein Bar Taste Delicious

If you’re a busy woman who needs a quick breakfast before you run a million errands or doesn’t have time to whip up an afternoon snack, you probably like the idea of a protein bar. But the gritty taste and tough texture can leave a lot to be desired. If this sounds all too familiar, we’ve got a game-changing hack for you.

Popping your protein bar of choice into the microwave for 15 seconds will leave you with a soft and melty delight instead of a concoction so chewy or crumbly it’s hard to scarf down on a hectic day. I first heard of this idea on the social media pages for Quest Nutrition. Quest creates some pretty decadent protein bars, such as Chocolate Sprinkled Donut ($23.99 for 12, Amazon) and Birthday Cake ($24.99 for 12, Amazon). I find them tasty chilled or at room temperature, but I couldn’t deny my intrigue when I kept noticing those tempting videos of microwaved Quest bars. Somehow, they just looked even better after being warmed up. See for yourself:

Quest says 15 seconds in the microwave is the “sweet spot,” so I followed those instructions when I tried the hack at home with a few different flavors. And oh boy, I’m glad I did. So devilishly warm and cookie-just-out-of-the-oven-like, I nearly forgot I was eating a protein bar in the first place. They’re definitely more reminiscent of a fresh baked good than a chalky bar, especially when you close your eyes. Mmmm.

Of course, Quest bars aren’t the only protein bars that you can upgrade with a simple zap. As Women’s Health reports, lots of people out there enjoy microwaved Clif bars ($18.99 for variety pack, Amazon). Reddit uses recommend nuking them for 20 seconds for the ultimate gooey goodness.

Microwaving times may vary based on how melty — and how meltable — your favorite protein bar is from the get-go. Also, some microwaves are more powerful than others, so it may take trial and error to find your preferred warming time. But if you ask us, it’s the perfect excuse to try more of these delicious treats… er, we mean protein bars!
