Gravy-Infused Cocktail Trend Has Us Wondering Where the Line Went
Excuse our pun, but we’re not convinced these new drinks are “all gravy”: KFC is now promoting gravy-inspired cocktails for their fans and followers. Yes, you read that correctly — and no, we’re not exactly sure how we got here.
The fast-food chain’s branch in the U.K. and Ireland recently released a video promoting three new “stock-tail” recipes — cocktails designed around their beloved gravy — with the tagline, “Gravy so good you can drink it.” Sorry, KFC: As much as we enjoy your gravy, we don’t think we’d ever go that far with any gravy out there, no matter how tasty it is. You can watch below to see the stock-tails they came up with (although we don’t recommend watching right before a meal!).
According to KFC U.K. & Ireland, they’re tapping into a larger trend of gravy-inspired cocktails — which indeed have been growing in popularity with many bartenders over the past couple of years, especially during the colder months. And of course, they’re giving their devoted fans a chance to experience one of their favorite KFC condiments in a whole new way.
“Our fans repeatedly express their love for our gravy, which always sparks ideas within the team. We know our gravy is good enough to drink — so with ‘stock-tails’ being a real hit at the moment, what better ingredient to take them to the next level?” said Marion Racine, marketing manager at KFC U.K. & Ireland, in an interview with <a target=”blank” href=”http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/kfc-gravy-cocktail-recipes-finger-lickin-sour-the-southern-twist-a8160301.html”>The Independent._
While some who watched the video loved the idea, others were less than impressed.
One commenter wrote, “Are you alright, KFC? Should we send somebody to check on you?”
Another wrote, “KFC, you have officially lost it.”
If you had a similar reaction, you might be comforted to know that these stock-tails are not being sold in any KFC stores — not even in the U.K. or Ireland where they were originally promoted. However, if you’re feeling bold enough to try them out yourself, you’ll be excited to hear that KFC does have individual video recipes with detailed instructions on how to make each one of these “stock-tails” so you can test it out for yourself.
