Why You Should Cover Your Bed With Luxurious Eucalyptus Sheets

Tags:

From French linen to organic cotton, there seems to be no end to the natural sources that can be woven into beautiful bed linen. Now, there’s a new contender in the bedding industry: eucalyptus. In response to consumer demand, sustainability is becoming an integral part of the design process for many product manufacturers. Because eucalyptus has been proven to have the lowest eco-footprint on the earth in the bedding industry — as well as a soft and luxurious feel — it’s easy to see why eucalyptus is rapidly becoming the top fabric choice for creating fabulous bed linen.

We had a chat with The Beach People founders, Victoria Beattie and Emma Henderson, about why they choose to use eucalyptus — and why you should, too.

What do you think has sparked this movement of people using eucalyptus over cotton or other linen?

I think it’s two parts: Firstly, I believe people are becoming more aware of how important sleep is. Good sleep is a luxury worth fighting for. There are so many ways you can enhance your sleep, and selecting the correct bedding is step one! If you like a luxury hotel-type sheet experience, but are looking for a cotton alternative, eucalyptus is for you.

Secondly, I believe people are becoming more aware of the makers, the designers, and the production of their purchases. Eucalyptus is proven to have the lightest eco-footprint on the earth.

What part of the eucalyptus tree is used to make the sheets?

The wood is broken down into fibers, similar to linen or bamboo, and then woven into yarn.

Can you explain the process?

It’s made from the cellulose in wood pulp, which is harvested from farmed trees (no old forests cut down here). Most farms are established on land that’s unsuitable for grazing or food crops, and as the trees grow vertically, you can harvest more pulp per acre. Meaning less of everything — less soil, less water, less land. In farming terms, that’s a good thing.

Once farmed, the fiber is produced through an advanced “closed loop” solvent spinning process, with minimal impact on the environment and economical use of energy and water. The best thing is that the chemical solvents used can be recovered and re-used.

How is eucalyptus different from cotton or linen?

The base material is obviously different, but in terms of feel and benefits, it’s wrinkle-free, highly absorbent, hypoallergenic, anti-bacterial, and has a similar feel to bamboo — only better for the earth.

Are eucalyptus sheets eco-friendly?

Yes, they are awarded again and again for being the most sustainable bedding textile of choice.

Are eucalyptus sheets long-lasting?

Yes, they would be on par with high-quality cotton sheets.

Why should people choose eucalyptus over cotton or linen?

They feel amazing and have a low impact on the earth!
