Dr. Brown’s Pacifiers and Teether Holders Recalled Due to Choking Hazard
If you have children or grandchildren young enough to use a pacifier or teether, you’ll want to listen up: A whopping 590,000 pacifier and teether holders have just been recalled. Scarily enough, these products can pose a choking hazard to little kids, according to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
The recall in question involves Dr. Brown’s Lovey pacifier and teether holders, which were sold at stores like K-Mart and Target in eight different styles: Giraffe, Zebra, Turtle, Reindeer (Special Holiday Edition), Frog (Special Holiday Edition), Spring Bunny (Special Holiday Edition), Deer, and Bunny. The big problem with these items is that the snap can detach from the pacifier’s ribbon, making it possible for the child using it to choke. There have already been 67 reports of the ribbon fraying and the snap detaching, but fortunately, no injuries have reported.
Before you throw out all your pacifier and teether holders without thinking twice, it’s worth noting that that only holders with the following lot codes are included in this recall: RICH0615; RICH0715; RICH0815; RICH1215; RICH0516; RICH0616; RICH0716; RICH1116; RICH1016; RICH0916; RICH1216; RICH0317; RICH0417; RICH0517; RICH0617; RICH0717; RICH0817; RICH0917. The lot code can be found on the tag attached to the holder, so be sure to take a close look at that tag to see if yours is a match.
If you do happen to own any of the affected products, the CPSC is urging you to take the holders away from children immediately and contact Handi-Craft — the importer and distributor of these holders — to learn how you can get a replacement product.
